FAQ
Questions, answered.
Everything you might want to know about FreeCoff. Can't find your answer? Email hello@freecoff.com.
What is FreeCoff?
FreeCoff makes it simple to pay something forward. Someone buys a real item — a coffee, a meal, a drink — at a participating local venue, and someone nearby gets to enjoy it later.
Is FreeCoff only about coffee?
No. It started with a coffee, but a FreeCoff can be a coffee, breakfast, lunch, meal, soft drink or another eligible item offered by a participating venue.
Is FreeCoff a charity?
No. FreeCoff is a purpose-led social enterprise and technology platform. It is not a registered charity.
Does the venue lose money?
No. Participating venues receive the full advertised menu value of the funded item.
How does FreeCoff make money?
FreeCoff's standard platform fee is 5% of the funded item value, capped at 50p per FreeCoff transaction. Payment-processing charges may apply separately.
Who can receive a FreeCoff?
FreeCoff is fundamentally open and community-centred — anyone may give and anyone may receive. Some future programmes may offer confidential priority access through trusted community partners, without anyone being publicly labelled.
Do I need the app?
The app is coming soon. Future participation may also include options such as the Community Pass, so access does not depend entirely on a smartphone.
Where is FreeCoff launching?
Glastonbury, Somerset. FreeCoff is not affiliated with Glastonbury Festival.
Can my venue join?
Yes — we'd love to hear from you. Register venue interest.
Can businesses sponsor FreeCoffs?
Yes, subject to programme design. Make a partnership enquiry.
Is alcohol included?
No. For the local FreeCoff launch, alcohol is not eligible to be paid forward. Any future event-specific programmes would operate under separate rules with appropriate age-verification controls.
